After granting of Union Territory (UT) status to Ladakh division by the Union Government, top leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) reached the mountainous region to hold interaction with the cross sections of society.

Manmohan Vaidya, general secretary (Sar-Karyawah) of the RSS, along with top leadership of J&K is camping at Ladakh to get feedback from all the people after the Union Government’s decision.

“Aim of the RSS top leadership’s visit to Ladakh is to allay apprehensions aired by some sections of society about protecting identities of some tribes of this region”, a source said, adding, “Some organisations affiliated to the RSS are already working aggressively in Ladakh, especially among Buddhists, so the Sangh Parivar will try to reap benefit of the government’s decision”.

“It was all due to the working of these organisations at the grassroots level that the BJP candidate had won the recently held Lok Sabha elections with a record margin”, a source said, adding, “After granting of the UT status the RSS-affiliated organisations will intensify their activities in the region to further strengthen their base”.

On August 5, the Union Government had fulfilled the long-pending demand of the people of Ladakh region, especially of Leh, by granting UT status to Ladakh. Sources said the Sangh Parivar had started a campaign to reach out to every section of society. Some social organisations in Jammu have aired apprehensions that Jammu’s identity will be in danger. To allay such apprehensions, the top leadership of the Sangh Parivar has already convened meetings with the people.
