Regularise them: Tarigami to govt

SRINAGAR: CPM leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Monday said the government should regularise all adhoc and casual workers, instead of creating confusion over their engagement.

Srinagar, May 27

CPM leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami on Monday said the government should regularise all adhoc and casual workers, instead of creating confusion over their engagement.

The recent government order to disengage all casual, seasonal, adhoc, contractual, need-based and daily rated workers in all departments, who were engaged after April 29, 2010, and March 17, 2015, has created uncertainty as these poor people have already suffered due to the non-payment of wages for months together, Tarigami said in a statement here.

He said the previous BJP-PDP government in the legislative assembly had assured that all these engagements would be regularised. “However, instead of regularising them, the administration is issuing such orders, which create confusion and chaos. The callous attitude of the administration has put this hapless lot through tremendous hardships,” he said.

Tarigami said most of them were the lone breadwinners of their families and disengaging them would have devastating effects on them and their families. “Unemployment in the state has assumed an alarming trend and the successive governments in the state lacked vision for tackling this problem. Any further delay in addressing this issue will make the problem worse,” he said. — TNS
