The district administration today launched a drive to get 100 per cent seeding of Aadhaar card in the district. Over 1 lakh children from the age group of 0 to 5 years in the district are yet to get enrolled for the Aadhaar card.

District programme officer Amarjit Bhullar said Aadhaar card was mandatory for children to get admission to a school. Also, they were eligible to get grant under various welfare schemes such as Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), Rajiv Gandhi Crèche Scheme and Janani Suraksha Yojana.

“Aadhaar card has become mandatory for everyone. While there were around 1.25 children between the age group of 0 to 5 years who were left out from the enrollment, we have managed to bring around 65,000 children under the Aadhaar seeding. However, remaining children will be brought under the Aadhaar seeding during the special drive,” Bhullar said.

For this, the district administration has roped in 264 aanganwari workers who were given training to do Aadhaar seeding on tablets online. The workers will get Rs 27 for each successful Aadhaar seeding that also includes the cost of the printing, stationary and other logistic expenses to be borne by the district administration.

The department has divided villages under the Circle Superviser and each one has been made responsible for the 25 villages in its block.
