CRZ School Sonipat win hockey tournament

JALANDHAR: CRZ Senior Secondary School, Sonipat, won the 14th All India S Balwant Singh Kapur Memorial Schools Hockey Tournament for Mata Parkash Kaur Cup by defeating DAV Collegiate School, Jalandhar, 4-2.

CRZ Senior Secondary School, Sonipat, won the 14th All India S Balwant Singh Kapur Memorial Schools Hockey Tournament for Mata Parkash Kaur Cup by defeating DAV Collegiate School, Jalandhar, 4-2.

For Sonipat team, the first goal was scored by Pankaj in the 3rd minute of the game. Captain Parmeet scored the 2nd and 3rd goal in 9th and 49th minute of the game by converting penalty strokes. The fourth goal for the winning side was scored by Deepak in the 60th minute of the game.

For the opponent team, both goals were scored by Karajwinder Singh in the 26th and 53rd minute of the match.

Earlier, Government Senior Secondary School, Mohali, got the third place by defeating BRC Danapur 3-2. For Mohali team all the three goals were scored by Parteek Sharma in the 29th, 31st and 65th minute of the game.

In between an exhibition match was also played between Olympian and International XI v/s budding players of Lyallpur Khalsa College for women, Jalandhar. The match finished in a 3-3 draw.

The winners earned Rs 1,25,000 while the runner up Rs 80,000. The third team got Rs 60,000/- and the fourth team got a reward of Rs 40,000. Mata Parkash Cup Running Trophy was also awarded to CRZ School, Sonipat.

Fair play trophy went to Shaheed Bishan Singh Memorial Senior Secondary School, New Delhi, while the best goalkeeper title was won by Vijay of CRZ School, Sonipat.

Parteek Sharma of Government Senior Secondary School, Mohali, got the best fullback title.

Justice Harminder Singh Madan (Punjab and Haryana High Court) graced the occasion as chief guest.
