The dismantled roads at various sewerage points on main city roads are disrupting the routine flow of traffic. The picture reflects the state of the roads adjacent to the Workshop chowk that leads to almost every other major location in the city.

For the past one and a half month, this road was dug out to search for sewerage points or manholes, but the manholes could not be located even after digging three times. Since then, broken concrete pieces have been lying scattered on the spot. Even though the surface of the road is covered, the stones and bricks scattered over it are causing inconvenience to the passersby. The dug-out concrete is occupying more than half the length of the road, aggravating the misery of the commuters on the road. Superintendenting Engineer (O&M) Kishore Bansal said the manhole had got pressed somewhere below the road and we couldn’t locate it. Until the manhole is found, which connects to other important sewage channels, the cleaning could not be completed.

Interestingly, no deadline has been fixed by the Municipal Corporation to locate the manhole so that repair work could be completed.

Commuters, meanwhile, are facing a great deal of inconvenience. Gaurav Singh, a two-wheeler driver, who is a frequent commuter, while going to his office, said it’s been a long time since the road has been dismantled and it has compressed the road to its half. However, the route becomes heavily jammed during the rush hours. Many vehicles have to slow down as nobody wants to drive on the concrete to avoid any mishap. Rickshaw-pullers, who daily stand here for getting customers, said due to the presence of sharp concrete pieces, at times, tyres of their rickshaws get punctured.
