Phagwara: Punjab Mahila Congress Vice-President Balbir Rani Sodhi expressed her resentment on ticket allotment to Joginder Singh Maan and described the decision as an “insult to women workers in the Congress”. Sodhi said she would soon decide and announce her next political strategy after consultations with her supporters. It may be recalled that Balbir Raja Sodhi, husband of Balbir Rani Sodhi, had contested in 2012 on the Congress ticket.

Hospital property vandalised

Tension prevailed in Phagwara Civil Hospital when the hospital property was vandalised as some persons scuffled on hospital premises. On a complaint lodged by Meenu Bedi, the doctor on duty, the police registered a case under Section 353/186 of the IPC and Section 4 of the Punjab Property Damage Act against unknown persons on Saturday evening. A patient, Mulakh Raj, who came for treatment also sustained injuries in the clash of two groups. A resident of Mohalla Bhagatpura here, Avtar Singh, and Rakesh came to the civil hospital for treatment after a clash with Amrinder and Ashutosh who too arrived later at the hospital. Here, both groups again indulged in violence and some furniture of the hospital was damaged.—OC
