Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Jalandhar II Paramveer Singh on Thursday ay said that he would recommend stern action against the non-performing sewa kendras for not providing services to people.

The SDM who inspected some sewa kendras said that he had got 13 Sewa Kendras inspected simultaneously in Jalandhar II Sub Division. As per the directions of the DC Varinder Kumar Sharma, in some centres he went on his own, while in others his tehsildars and naib tehsildars had gone. Out of 13, he said only five were working. He said seven sewa kendras of the Type II category, including Bhogpur, Kartarpur, Guru Amar Dass Nagar, Maqsoodan Fruits and Vegetables Market, Basti Mithu, Rajan Nagar and Kot Sadiq on Kala Sanghian Road, were inspected, out of which two — Bhogpur and Kot Sadiq — were not working. Likewise, the SDM said that all the six Type III sewa kendras, including Randhawa Masandaan, Kurala, Bahopur, Jallowal, Maangeki and Naugajja, were found non-operational.

The SDM said that this gross negligence on part of the kendras and was intolerable. He said the kendras could not run away from their primary responsibility of providing services to people. Paramveer Singh said he would soon submit his report to the Deputy Commissioner and recommend stern action against the erring sewa kendras.

The SDM said it was unfair on part of the sewa kendras authorities to harass people without any reason. Meanwhile, during the inspection he asked the authorities to ensure that people get the services in a time-bound manner. Paramveer Singh also directed them to ensure that more chairs were made available for the people to sit in the sewa kendras when they come for their work.
