Ever since the construction of a flyover near the PAP chowk resumed in November last year, traffic jam at the PAP T-junction has become a problem. Traffic from Rama Mandi chowk to PAP has been confined on to the newly-constructed service lanes on both sides of the NH-1.

Though the long-pending construction of the flyover is now keeping a good pace, it creates considerable inconvenience for the traffic which causes a delay of 15-20 minutes, while traversing this stretch, either while moving towards the city or going to Amritsar.

Two-wheelers and car drivers need to be careful because of the speeding buses, which do not even care to move alongside the kutcha track. In addition, there is no arrangement for traffic control in place at the entrance to the Mall Road towards the Cantonment falling along the highway.

“The authorities should institute a mechanism to post regular traffic personnel or install makeshift lights to avoid incidents,” said Dilsher Singh, a daily commuter to Ludhiana.

ACP Traffic, Harvinder Singh said, “We are working on it, broadening the arcs, where there are turns. We have begun controlling the traffic manually during the peak hours by switching off the lights. The weather is also a problem owing to less visibility these days.”
