JALANDHAR: The rural police have busted a gang of bike thieves and arrested its four members in Gaddowali village of the district on Saturday.

The rural police have busted a gang of bike thieves and arrested its four members in Gaddowali village of the district on Saturday. The suspects have been identified as Sethi Singh, alias Sethi, a resident of Kutbewal village, Kapurthala; Balwinder Singh, alias Mani, of Ballno village, Nakodar; Bukkan Singh, a resident of Ballno village, and Prabhjit Singh, alias Pabba, of Jhalbibrri village in Kapurthala.

The police have also recovered 20 stolen motorcycles and 10 mobile phones from the gang members.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Navjot Singh Mahal said yesterday, Lambra SHO sub-inspector Pushap Bali received a tip-off regarding the gang members who were assembled near an abandoned brick-kiln at Gaddowali village and were planning to commit some crime in the area.

The SSP said the SHO received information that a gang comprising Sethi Singh (26), Prabhjit Singh (26), Balwinder Singh (23) and Bukkan Singh (36), all of whom were specialised in theft of motorcycles, were looting people at knife point.

The gang members, who were gathered at an abandoned brick-kiln at Gaddewali, were waiting for a vehicle to carry stolen motorcycles and also planning to commit a snatching when SI Pushap Bali, along with a police party, conducted a raid at the spot and arrested all suspects. The police recovered 20 motorcycles and 10 mobile phones from them. After their arrest, 14 cases have been traced, of which one was registered in Jalandhar Police Commissionerate , five in Kapurthala district and eight in Jalandhar district (rural).

The SSP said with the arrest of the gang members, the police have managed to trace 14 cases, including eight cases registered in various police stations of Jalandhar rural, five in Kapurthala and one in Jalandhar Police Commissionerate.Mahal said a case under Sections 379, 37-B, 401, 120-B and 34 of IPC was registered. — TNS
