Four wagons of a goods train laden with sugar derailed near Sanaura railway crossing, on the Jalandhar-Dhilwan route, on Wednesday.

Four wagons got damaged and sugar spilled around the tracks. However, no causality has been reported. The driver, assistant and the guard of the train were safe.

“The incident occurred on the Jalandhar-Dhilwan route in the late afternoon. The train was loaded with sugar. The four wagons got derailed along with the guard’s coach. It was on its way to Pathankot. The wagons got derailed near the Sanaura village railway crossing. The technical team is looking after the repair of the tracks,” said GRP SHO Baldev Singh Randhawa.

He further informed, that incident took place due to a fault in the coupling (equipment that connects two wagons). Restoration work is in progress and normal train services on the line are expected to be restored soon, he said.

Meanwhile, the derailment caused a lot of inconvenience to the passengers, as for hours, the scheduled trains were either diverted or cancelled on the route. The long route trains have been diverted, informed officials.
