Life term for three BKI associates

NAWANSHAHAR: The Nawanshahr district court on Tuesday announced life imprisonment to three associates of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) under Section 121 (waging, or attempting to wage war), along with 10 years of imprisonment under Section 121 (a) (Conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121) of IPC.

Nawanshahr, February 6

The Nawanshahr district court on Tuesday announced life imprisonment to three associates of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) under Section 121 (waging, or attempting to wage war), along with 10 years of imprisonment under Section 121 (a) (Conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121) of IPC. Nawanshahr SSP Deepak Hilori confirmed the development. He said they had also been penalised. 

The accused are Arvinder Singh, Surjit Singh and Ranjit Singh. 

Three years ago, the police arrested a suspected BKI militant from Rahon. Acting on an information that a BKI militant was active in the region, the police arrested Arvinder Singh. After a few days, his other aides were also arrested. 

As per information, Arvinder had migrated to Doha in 2011, where he came into contact with the BKI. He was preparing to recruit members for the BKI when he was arrested. — TNS
