The Municipal Corporation (MC) is all set to tighten its noose around the commercial establishments that have so far failed to comply with the solid waste management system in the city.

While there are more than 2,000 commercial buildings in the city, only 435 have so far tied up with Jindal Infrastructure Limited, the company running the solid waste management system here.

According to Dr Varinder Kalia, health officer, despite running the project in the city, a majority of the buildings are not complying with the directions of the Green Tribunal. “They have so far not subscribed to the services of the JITF and are throwing their garbage in an unplanned manner, causing a lot of littering in the open,” said Dr Kalia. He said a fine would be imposed on the defaulters with immediate effect.
