Ophthalmology conference begins tomorrow

JALANDHAR: The 23rd annual conference of Punjab Ophthalmological Society of eye surgeons from Punjab, Chandigarh and adjoining states of Haryana, Himachal, dedicated dedicated to the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, will be held at The Grand Lilly Resorts, Jalandhar, from December 6 to 8.

The 23rd annual conference of Punjab Ophthalmological Society of eye surgeons from Punjab, Chandigarh and adjoining states of Haryana, Himachal, dedicated dedicated to the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev, will be held at The Grand Lilly Resorts, Jalandhar, from December 6 to 8.

Besides scientific deliberations, the concept of Guru Nanak Dev about the environment and women rights will be highlighted during the conference by dedication of sessions and display of flexes and placards. The delegates and faculty will be honoured by planting saplings from a nursery to be temporarily established at the conference site.

The society was founded 23 years ago in the city with the efforts of Dr Balbir Singh Bhaura and Dr Sansar Singh (founder president).

The first conference was held in1997 in Jalandhar with Dr Balbir Singh Bhaura as its founder organising secretary. This time, the conference will be hosted by Jalandhar Ophthalmological Society under the guidance of Dr Vivek Arora, president.

Dr Bhaura said: “We have international faculty from the US National faculty from all major cities and institutions of repute like AIMS, LV Prasad Institute, Hyderabad and PGI Chandigarh. Dr S Natarajan will be honoured with oration award.”

Dr D Ramamurthy is among the surgeons who are going to perform live surgeries. Other surgeons of live surgery (being telecast from two centres Akal Eye Hospital Mahajan Eye Hospital) to The Grand Lilly Resorts are Dr Balbir Singh Bhaura (Jalandhar) Dr Ankush Mahajan (Jalandhar) Dr Priya Narang (Ahmadabad), Dr Harshul Tak (Jaipur), Dr Mohan Rajan (Chennai) and Dr Manpreet Singh (PGI Chandigarh).

“Dr Amar Agarwal will grace the occasion as the chief guest. A poster session-15, quiz and the session of breakfast with young ophthalmologists, session on technology and medicine, OPL (Ophthalmic Premier League, symposium on Oculoplasty and pre-conference courses will be held during the conference,” added Dr Balbir Singh.

He said besides international faculty 40 national faculty and 30 host faculty would participate in the conference. “The highlights of the conference include optional trips to Sultanpur Lodhi and Dera Baba Nanak (Gurudwara Chola Sahib) and Indo-Pak corridor for delegates and faculty. Life beyond ophthalmology displaying the activities of ophthalmologists like tracking, hiking, swimming cycling photography horse riding will be displayed in the form of videos at conference site. Cyclothon (cycle rally) will also be organised on December 8.
