Unsolved cases dent police claim of ‘no law-and-order problem’

PHAGWARA: Though the Phagwara police are busy in taking the credit of maintaining law and order in the district and praising itself, the real picture seems to be contrary as the police are yet to solve a robbery case in which Rs 50 lakh were looted at gunpoint by four unidentified armed robbers on January 9, 2014, near an ATM in Hargobind Nagar about five years ago.

Phagwara, October 20

Though the Phagwara police are busy in taking the credit of maintaining law and order in the district and praising itself, the real picture seems to be contrary as the police are yet to solve a robbery case in which Rs 50 lakh were looted at gunpoint by four unidentified armed robbers on January 9, 2014, near an ATM in Hargobind Nagar about five years ago. No arrest has been made so far in the case even after 57 months.

Even after 13 years, the Phagwara police have failed to solve a robbery case, in which two armed motorcycle-borne robbers snatched foreign currency worth Rs 33,35,705 from two bank employees on November 16 in 2005. Though an award of Rs 2 lakh was announced for giving the information of the accused, the case is still lying pending.

Moreover, the police could not solve the murder case of an old woman, who was found murdered at Hargobind Nagar here around several months ago.

Even newly appointed SSP Satinder Singh admitted that the Phagwara police could not solve these cases till date. He said the police were working to avoid criminal incidents in future.

Opposite to the claims of the police, cases of theft, snatching and burglary have been reported from various parts of Phagwara several times in a month. Residents of Phagwara subdivision are living in an atmosphere of fear due to increasing criminal incidents.
