Live life to the fullest, no matter what—is the motto of Sheenu, who decked up all bright on early Tuesday afternoon and basked in the new-found glory of a singer. She just made her debut with a peppy Punjabi number, Chann Makhna. 

“People label themselves as bathroom singers, I prefer to call myself a ‘kitchen’ singer,” she begins with a broad smile as people congratulate her on her new journey. 

Passionate about music and dance, her dream was cut short as an accident in 2001 sent her into coma for two months. Barely 24, as the car full of family fell into a gorge near Gohana, she was pulled out of the crushed car. “The accident left me with major spinal cord and head injuries leading to memory loss,” says Sheenu, who gets teary eyed as she shares how she couldn’t not even recognise her mother. But not ready to give up, she worked towards getting well and getting back on her feet again. “I owe it to my husband, who stood by me and gave me two beautiful children. I wanted to be there for my family,” says she flanked by her son (14) and daughter (10).

While executing her role of a homemaker, Sheenu wanted to get back to her ambitions and it was a meeting with music composer Sukhpal Sukh which gave wings to her dreams. With the full team of the song, at Beach N Brew, she credits director Pradeep Singh to have encouraged her immensely at the shoot.

“One can never choose one’s circumstances but your response to them. I decided to make the most of the second chance that life’s given me,” says Sheenu who takes out time to do riyaaz regularly.

Having been part of the Air Wing of NCC, she loved flying and regrets that she couldn’t pursue it commercially but plan B is to soar ahead on music. “It’s just the beginning,” she flashes a bright smile, her bangles clinking...
