10-year jail for rapist under POCSO Act

LUDHIANA: Additional Sessions Judge Virinder Aggarwal has convicted Rama Kant of Sunet village under POCSO Act for exploiting a 13-year-old girl.

Additional Sessions Judge Virinder Aggarwal has convicted Rama Kant of Sunet village under POCSO Act for exploiting a 13-year-old girl. He was sentenced to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of Rs 1,25,000.

The court ordered to send a copy of the judgment to the District Legal Services Authority for granting compensation to the victim. It also ordered to pay Rs 1 lakh to the victim, if the fine was recovered from the convict. The accused was not entitled for any leniency keeping in view the nature of offence committed by him, remarked the court.

In complainant to the police, the victim’s mother had stated that the accused enticed her daughter on the pretext of marrying her. Later, when the girl was recovered, she claimed to have been raped by the accused.
