2,900 unemployed youth attend job fair

LUDHIANA: Under the Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission of Punjab government, job fairs were organised at Jagraon, Khanna and Samrala today.

Under the Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission of Punjab government, job fairs were organised at Jagraon, Khanna and Samrala today. More than 2,900 unemployed youth and 100 companies participated in the job fairs.

At Jagraon, as many as 24 companies and 1,734 candidates turned up at the fair. At Khanna, as many as 45 companies and 786 candidates came, while at Samrala, 30 companies and 700 candidates participated. At Khanna, the job fair was inaugurated by Khanna MLA Gurkirat Singh Kotli and Payal MLA Lakhbir Singh Lakha. At Samrala, the job fair was inaugurated by MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon, and at Jagraon, it was inaugurated by former minister Malkit Singh Dakha.

The MLAs said the youth should enrol themselves in skill development courses as they were in high demand. They said the Capt Amarinder Singh led government had promised in their election manifesto that jobs would be provided to every household.

In this fifth-edition of job fairs, 2.10 lakh jobs will be provided and loans will be offered to more than 1 lakh youths for starting their ventures. These job fairs are being organised at 82 different places in the state and the successful candidates of these job fairs would be issued appointment letters by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh at Ropar on October 5. Punjab government will also give one lakh government jobs for the youth. To date, more than 8 lakh jobs have already been provided.

Neeru Katyal Gupta, Jagraon ADC, and Jaspal Singh Gill, Khanna ADC, informed that another job fair would be organised at Government Institute of Textile Chemistry and Knitting Technology, Rishi Nagar, Ludhiana, on September 11. A mega job fair will be organised at Ajitgarh, Mohali, on September 18, where the selected candidates would get a minimum salary package of Rs 3 lakh.
