Girls to get self-defence training in govt schools

LUDHIANA: In order to make girl students in government schools to be able to protect themselves and better-equipped with any untoward situation, a self-defence training session for girls of classes IX and class X will be held.

In order to make girl students in government schools to be able to protect themselves and better-equipped with any untoward situation, a self-defence training session for girls of classes IX and class X will be held.

The training is going to be conducted for a period of two months. Authorities at schools have been directed by the office of Director General School Education (DGSE) to rope in black-belt trainer for the course.

The schools have been given the choice to conduct the timings that suits the school. It has been directed that the presence of a female teacher is a must during the training session and the training has to be completed by all schools by the first month of next year.

It has been directed that a karate competition should also be conducted at school-level on the concluding days of the training.

The students winning the first three positions would be given an award of Rs 800, Rs 500 and Rs 300 respectively.

“These days it is very important that the girls should be able to defend themselves in case of any untoward incident. It will also add self-confidence in girls and will enhance their fitness,” said a government schoolteacher.

Kusum Lata, Principal, Government High School, Sarabha Nagar, said that the training would be conducted at the schools in November, she said.

Guddu Kumar, one of the trainers said that the girls should be trained so that they can defend themselves. “Karate involves different techniques for blocks and attacks using punches, elbow, knee, etc,” he said.
