Ludhiana, October 15

Taking action against the relatives of Inspector Varunjit Singh, the police have booked Gurvinder Singh, a government contractor and Varunjit’s brother-in-law, on charges of not registering his domestic help with the police. A case under section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC has been registered at the PAU police station.

On October 11, a girl, who worked as a domestic help, was found hanging in a room at Gurvinder’s house in Ranjit Nagar. Varunjit, who has been posted at the Police Lines here, lives on the ground floor of the same building.

Cong leader opposes case against deceased’s kin

Congress leader Baljinder Jindu from Atam Nagar, while opposing the attempt-to-murder case registered against the relatives of the deceased maid, said he would provide financial help to the family for fighting a legal battle.

“I opposed attempt-to-murder case registered against the brother, sister and other relatives of deceased Roshni. The police wanted to suppress the voice of the poor by registering a case against the victim’s family. Instead of giving clean chit to the Inspector, the police should have registered a case against the employer of the deceased. I will provide financial aid to fight this false case. The matter will be brought to the notice of the DGP and Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.”
