LUDHIANA: Ludhiana proved too good for Kapurthala as the former wrapped up the final to lift winners’ trophy in the boy’s section on the second day of the 12th Senior Punjab State Baseball Tournament, being held at Shahi Sports College, Samrala, near here today.

Ludhiana proved too good for Kapurthala as the former wrapped up the final to lift winners’ trophy in the boy’s section on the second day of the 12th Senior Punjab State Baseball Tournament, being held at Shahi Sports College, Samrala, near here today.

The final turned out to be a mismatch as Ludhiana came out victorious without being challenged. They won the verdict 6-0 to lay their hands on trophy. Jatin and Sachin contributed two runs each to guide Ludhiana to victory.

In the match for the hard-line cup, Fatehgarh Sahib overpowered Sangrur 2-0 to secure third position. The architect of their hard-fought victory was Gurpreet, who scored a brace to enable his side finish among position holders.

Earlier in the day, in the remaining league matches, Kapurthala outplayed Jalandhar 4-1 (Rakesh and Gurpreet 1 run each); Patiala defeated Ropar 9-5 (Varinderjit and Kirandeep 2 runs each); Ludhiana got the better of Fatehgarh Sahib 4-2 (Arun and Gurpreet 1 run each) and Moga scrambled past Barnala 5-4 (Harpreet and Harjeet Singh 2 runs each).

Meanwhile, in the first match in the girls’ section, Ropar pipped Bathinda 2-0 with Sonia and Raman accounting for one run each. In the second match, Suman scored the lone run as Amritsar outperformed Bathinda 1-0. Gurdaspur prevailed over Jalandhar 2-1 in which Harmanpreet and Gurpreet Kaur scored one run each.
