Taking a serious note of the gang rape incident that took place in Ludhiana, Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu on Monday said the culprits involved in the heinous crime would not be spared at any cost.

He said he was in touch with senior police officials who were investigating the matter.

In a press statement issued here on Monday, the Congress MP said gang rape was one of the most heinous crimes.

He said the Punjab Government would ensure that the culprits were identified and given severest punishment without any delay.

He assured all possible support to the victim girl, saying that the Punjab Government was standing rock solid with her and her family.

Meanwhile, Deputy leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly and AAP MLA from Jagraon, Sarabjit Kaur Manuke, criticised the state government for failing to protect women.

Demanding immediate arrest of the accused, Manuke said the government should ensure that the accused get exemplary punishment to send a strong message.

Manuke said the law and order situation in the state had been deteriorating and the government had failed to check criminal activities.

“The crimes like murders, loot and rape are taking place every day in the state. The state has witnessed considerable rise in incidents of violence against women and the women are feeling highly insecure,” said Manuke while criticising the state government for failing to check violence against women.
