Minor girl kidnapped, 1 booked

Ludhiana: The Sarabha Nagar police booked a man on the charge of kidnapping a minor girl. The accused has been identified as Sachin Kumar of Sunet village. Complainant Ram Vilas of Sunet told the police that on October 10, when his wife and daughter were returning from work, his daughter mysteriously disappeared from the road. Later, he came to know that she was kidnapped by Sachin on the pretext of marrying her. The police launched a manhunt.

One held for illegal mining

The police nabbed a man on the charge of illegal mining. The accused has been identified as Yadvinder Singh of Kasabad. The police said during the routine patrolling near Kasabad, a tractor-trailer loaded with sand was stopped for checking, and on being asked about the documents of sand, the driver failed to produce any. After impounding the vehicle, a case under the Mining Act was registered and the driver was arrested.

3 dowry cases registered

The women police station registered three cases of dowry harassment in a day. In first case, on the complaint of Navjot Kaur of New Hargobind Nagar, a dowry harassment case was registered against her husband Jatinderjit Singh, mother-in-law Hardeep Kaur, father-in-law Surjit Singh, of Dashmesh Nagar. In another case, on the complaint of Roomy Khatun of Dhandari Khurd, a case was registered against her husband Mohd Nizamudin and her mother-in-law Nasima of Bihar. In yet another case, on the complaint of Jeevan Jyoti of Islam Ganj, a dowry harassment case was registered against her husband Inderjit, mother-in-law Asha Rani and brother-in-law Deepak of Bhatian. No arrest has been made in any of the registered case so far by the police. .

Free artificial limbs distributed 

A free artificial limbs distribution camp was organised by Ralson India in cooperation with the Bharat Vikas Parishad Charitable Trust, Punjab, on Saturday at Divyang Sahayata Kendra, Rishi Nagar, in which artificial limbs, calipers, tricycles and hearing aids were given to 35 physically handicapped persons. Suman Gupta, secretary of the trust, said since 1996, the trust had organised 1,276 camps in which artificial limbs, calipers, crutches, tricycle and hearing aids had been provided to over 53,726 physically handicapped persons.

Light & sound show postponed

In wake of the recent tragedy that took place in Amritsar and the state mourning by the Punjab Government, the light and sound show dedicated to the battle of Saragarhi, scheduled for October 21, has been postponed. Col JS Boparai, District Sainik Welfare Officer, said this light and sound show was to be organised at Guru Nanak Stadium here at 6:30 pm on Sunday. He said in wake of the recent tragedy in Amritsar, this show had been postponed and the new date would be announced shortly.

Hit-and-run: One dead 

A 20-year-old boy died in a hit-and-run case at Partap Singh Wala on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Mohit Kumar. Deceased's kin Vinod said his nephew runs an ice-cream vend and when he was standing on the road on October 19, a rashly driven vehicle hit him and left. Due to serious head injuries, he died on the spot. A case against an unidentified person was registered.

Food product samples taken

Food team comprising District Health Officer Andesh Kang, food safety officer Yogesh Goyal and Robin Kumar on Saturday inspected a sweets shop, confectionery shop, restaurant and diaries. The team took seven samples of paneer, dietary supplements, rabri, namkeen, milk cake, curd and natural mineral water. All samples were sent to a lab for testing. The department told the sweets owners to use good quality raw material and maintain proper hygiene. All food business operators are advised to display their food licence on reception. TNS

Marathon in memory of martyrs

Khanna: A marathon run was organised by the Khanna police in the memory of brave martyrs who had laid their lives for the welfare of the society. Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said a marathon run was organised for the first time in Khanna on Saturday. Police officials and nearly 300 civilians participated in the run. The event started from GTB Market, Khanna, to Malerkotla Chowk and finished at GTB Market, Khanna.

2 held with intoxicants

The Khanna police arrested two persons and recovered a huge quantity of intoxicants from their possession. The arrested have been identified as Gurpreet Singh of Kapurthala and Ravi Bhogal of Jalandhar. Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said a police party was on a patrolling duty when they noticed two persons coming from Markfed side, near Petrol Pump, GT Road, Khanna, on a motorcycle. On seeing the police party, the bikers tried to flee, but the police nabbed them. During search, 130 injections of Avil and 130 injections of Rexogesic were recovered from them. A case been registered against the accused. OC
