Ludhiana, August 16

The body of Suraj Puri, aged around 32, was found near a bridge over Sidhwan Canal here today. The PAU police, who recovered the body, said the deceased was a resident of Naveen Nagar, Jassian Road, in the Haibowal area and had gone missing on August 14.

The police said Puri was a manager at a diagnostic centre on the Ferozepur road. They received a complaint which said the man had left office in his official car on August 14 to collect payments, but never returned.

Following the complaint, the police started searching for him and found his car near the bridge over Sidhwan Canal. The police alerted the hydel plant authorities and asked divers to report in case they found any body in the canal.

Brij Mohan, SHO of the PAU, said money collected by Puri was lying inside the car. On August 14 evening, the police got information that a body had been seen near the Barewal bridge. A police team reached the spot and fished out the body.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and as per preliminary investigation, the deceased died because of drowning. No injury mark was found on the body.

The SHO stated that Puri had apparently committed suicide. However, his family and kin were unaware of the reason behind his extreme step. According to them, Suraj was not in any kind of depression. Members of his family, including his wife, who is eight months pregnant, are being questioned.

Though the police have found money collected by Puri in the car, his mobile phone and wallet remain untraceable.
