District Education Department is leaving no stone unturned to increase the enrolment of students in government schools. The department has now asked the schools to get in touch with the alumni of the school who are doing well in their respective fields.

Admission to the government schools has already started from December 18 for pre-primary classes. Under the campaign to attract more students to government schools, ‘Each one bring one’ drive has also been started by the department under which each teacher has been asked to bring one student for admission in pre-primary classes. The help of Anganwadi workers is also being sought in this regard.

In a recent circular issued to all the District Education Officers and school heads, it has been asked to contact the old passed-out students and invite them to the school functions, upload their pictures on the website and also put up their pictures in the school premises. This is the part of the publicity campaign to attract students towards government schools like private schools.

Apart from this, rallies are also being organised by the schools to make people aware of the benefits of studying in government schools. These benefits include free education, mid-day meal free of cost, free uniform and text books.

“Many doctors, advocates and police officials have studied in government schools. People’s perception about the government schools needs to be changed and government schools are striving hard to do the same,” said Baljinder Kaur, a teacher from Government School at Samrala.

She further added that inviting the alumni of the college and asking them to encourage the students will definitely help in garnering more admissions to the schools.
