Seminar dwells on challenges of science, technology

A one-day national seminar on the topic “Science and Technology: Trends and Challenges” was organised by the Faculty of Sciences, Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College.

Prof Geoff Layer, vice-chancellor, University of Wolverhampton, (England) and Dr Karamjit Singh, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh, graced the inaugural session.

College Principal, Dr Arvinder Singh, sharing his views, said the main objective of the seminar was to provide a platform to the teachers, research scholars and students of this stream, to update them with the contemporary trends and challenges in the field of Science and technology.

Dr SP Singh (Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar) Honourary General Secretary, Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, said five books based on Science and Technology; Chemical Science, Computer Science, Life Science, Maths and Physics were being published.

He further added that these books were the outcome of a two-day international conference which was held last year and around 350 research papers were received. The motive of publishing these books was to encourage the activities of science and technology in the college. Prof Asha Rani briefed on the content of these five books. Dr Geeta Jalan, coordinator, shared the motive of this particular topic of seminar with the guests and delegates.

Dr SS Baari, former Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh, said India would rise as a powerful country in the field of science and technology if the young lot of students start exploring the new trends and challenges in this field.

Dr Opinderjit Kaur Takhar, Director of Centre for Sikh and Panjabi Studies, University of Wolverhampton, (England) threw light on the achievements in the field of computer science in India.
