Six snatchers, active in city, arrested

LUDHIANA: The city police claimed to have arrested six persons in the past 24 hours, who were allegedly involved in various snatching incidents in the city.

The city police claimed to have arrested six persons in the past 24 hours, who were allegedly involved in various snatching incidents in the city.

The accused have been arrested from different areas of the city. From gold ornaments to mobile phones, these snatchers used to steal articles from residents even in broad daylight and many cases are already registered against them in different police stations.

One Tarsem Singh (40), a resident of Mohalla Gobindsar, was arrested by the police. Tarsem snatched gold earrings from a woman, when she was talking to someone over phone outside her house. The incident took place at 12:30 pm on October 9. The police have recovered two earrings, motorcycle and a scooter from Tarsem and five cases were registered against him.

In another incident, Amanpreet Singh, alias Prince, was arrested during a nakabandi near Cremation Ground Model Town. As many as 22 mobile phones were recovered from him. Four cases are already registered against him in different police stations.

In yet another incident, Honey Sharma, a resident of Karamsar Colony and Bunty, a native from Hardoi, UP, who is living here near the railway station, were arrested by the police. Both accused were arrested from near Zone D office of the MC and 19 phones were recovered from them. Both accused are between 20 and 25 years of age. Five cases are registered against Honey Sharma, while three cases are already registered against Bunty.

The police also claimed to have arrested one Prince Dhami of Kwality Chowk and his accomplice Sukhdeep Singh of New Janta Nagar for breaking the window panes of cars and lifting important valuables from vehicles. 

On October 4, a person had parked a car near Gagan Photostat, Ghumar Mandi, when the two accused broke the window panes and took away Rs 1,75,000 and other important documents from the vehicle. The police have recovered seven laptops of different brands, three mobile phones, a projector charger, and Rs 5,000 cash from them.
