Ludhiana, January 21

With weather taking a turn for the worse and blanket of fog getting thicker in the region, the misery of rail passengers was further compounded as railway cancelled 11 trains for the day, two were rescheduled and another was diverted. Besides, more than a dozen-odd long-route trains were running behind schedule.

Those travelling between New Delhi and various destinations in Punjab were the worst sufferers as two intercity express trains, 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi and 14681 New Delhi-Jalandhar Intercity, were running late by 3.05 hours and 1.55 hours respectively. As if this was not enough, the 14681 was short-terminated at Ludhiana, thus leaving Jalandhar/Phagwara-bound passengers to fend for themselves late in the night and that too in the adverse weather conditions.

According to the Railways, 12241/42 Chandigarh-Amritsar-Chandigarh Intercity Express, 13005 Howrah-Amritsar Mail, 13151/52 Kolkata-Jammu Tawi-Kolkata Sealdah Express, 14673 Jaynagar-Amritsar Shaheed Express, 15209/10 Saharsa-Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express, 15707/08 Katihar-Amritsar-Katihar Amrapali Express and 22423 Gorakhpur-Amritsar Jansadharan Express remained cancelled for the day.

The 12460 Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express (2.35 hrs) and 14681 New Delhi-Jalandhar City (short terminated at Ludhiana) Intercity Express (1.55 hrs) were rescheduled for late departure and 22317 Sealdah-Jammu Tawi Humsafar Express was diverted via an alternative route between Asansol and Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Nagar.
