Two more cases of swine flu reported in industrial city

LUDHIANA: Two cases of swine flu have been detected and patients are given treatment in isolation wards of the city hospitals.



Ludhiana: Two cases of swine flu have been detected and patients are given treatment in isolation wards of the city hospitals. Among the fresh victims of the viral infection are a 70-year-old woman of Basant Avenue, Dugri, and a six-year-old boy of Kailash Nagar Road in Shimla Colony. According to officials of the Health Department, from January 2017 to date, 95 suspected cases of swine flu have been reported from different parts of the district, of which 35 were confirmed as afflicted with the disease. Eight human lives have been lost to this disease during this period. TNS

Bhandari is chairman of Dist Athletics Association

Ludhiana: Dr Ashok Bhandari and Sukhpal Singh Gill were elected chairman and vice-president, respectively, of the District Athletics Association, Ludhiana. They were elected during the annual general meeting of the association held at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Sunday. The other office-bearers would be elected later on. Prem Singh, general secretary, said it was resolved to organise the Annual District Athletics Meet on September 2 and 3 during which competitions for the sub-junior boys and girls, junior boys and girls in addition to the senior men and women would be held. Performance during this two-day meet would be taken into consideration while selecting the Ludhiana district athletics squads for the forthcoming Punjab State Athletics Championship scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10, added Singh.
