No place for bitterness, fear in new India, PM says after ruling

Characterising the day as landmark in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the historic judgment in the Ayodhya case “ushers a new dawn and today will also be remembered as a day the country added a golden leaf”.

Addressing the nation following the Supreme Court judgment, PM Modi said people of the country should also remember the message that while it may take time, “our faith in the Constitution, judicial system and traditions remains unshaken”.

It was time, he said, people bid farewell to any bit of rancour they may have harboured ever and underscored there was no place for fear, bitterness and negativity. After today’s decision, he said, the onus was on the country to work towards building a new India, moving forward together and ensuring that no one is left behind.

“Today is also the day when the Kartarpur corridor was thrown open for people, for which both India and Pakistan cooperated. The Ayodhya verdict teaches us to move by staying together,” he said.

The world, he said, which knew India as the largest democracy, would now realise that Indian democracy was both alive and strong and every community and religion accepted the decision with an open heart.

“India which is known for its unity in diversity and we all take pride in it. This mantra can now be seen in full bloom…this is a historic day that Indians will quote…it is not taken from history but 125 crore Indians are writing a new history and adding a golden leaf,” he said.

Praising the judiciary for continuously and patiently hearing every side to arrive at an unanimous verdict in resolving a difficult issue, he said this could be appreciated when everyone knew the difficulties one faced to solve a problem within a family.

“Let’s start now to work for a new India with faith and confidence and with the resolve that no one falls behind,” he said, adding that more than before it was imperative to respect law and order and follow judicial system with a priority to work for a glorious future.
