A “terror-funding” suspect was detained when he landed at the Jaipur International Airport on Sunday, police said.

The suspect, Mohammed Hussain Maulani, is a native of Rajasthan’s Nagaur district who sources said had been living in Dubai for some two decades. He was detained at immigration with the help of Rajasthan Police and the Anti-Terrorism Squad on Sunday night when he landed in Jaipur from Dubai, sources at the police headquarters said on Monday. Authorities then handed him over to the National Investigation Agency.

Maulani’s name emerged in a terror funding case that the NIA’s investigating. There was a look out circular issued against him in 2018.

The NIA said in a statement later in the day that it had arrested Maulani, who also goes by the name Babloo, in the Falah-i-Insaniyat.

“The accused was evading his arrest by hiding in Dubai, UAE for long.  Accordingly, a Lookout Circular (LOC) was issued by NIA. He was detained on his arrival at Jaipur International Airport from Dubai on 20.01.2019,” the agency said.

This is the fourth arrest in the case that involves terror funds being sent by FIF operatives to their associates through Hawala operators allegedly to create unrest in India. The NIA says Maulani was in close touch with foreign-based FIF financers.

Also on Monday, a local court he was produced before remanded him in NIA’s custody for nine days.
