Abohar: The police on Tuesday registered another case under Section 420 of the IPC against Devi Lal of Basant Nagar here, who is posted as manager, Bank Staff Thrift and Credit Society, Bathinda. Prem Chand of Dashmesh Nagar had alleged that Devi Lal had embezzled Rs 49.44 lakh he had handed over to him for investing in fixed and recurring deposits. Earlier, a case was registered against Devi Lal on the complaint of Jiwan Chhabra and his wife regarding a similar fraud of Rs 75 lakh. OC
LPU student from Mizoram ends life
Phagwara: A 23-year-old resident of Mizoram identified as Laprem Hema reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of a building in which he was staying as a paying guest in Hargobind Nagar here on Monday night. He was a student of BTech (Agriculture) in Lovely Professional University. Stress is said to be the cause behind him taking the extreme step. The police have registered case and informed his family. His body has been kept in the mortuary of the civil hospital. OC
Two killed in road mishaps
Abohar: Dimpy (27) died and her husband Sanjeev (29) sustained injuries as the car they were travelling in collided with a stray bull near Kallarkhera village on Monday night. The stray bull also died on the spot. The couple was returning to Sriganganagar from Abohar. In another mishap, Moti Ram (28) died as he fell from a tractor-trailer on the highway on Tuesday near Kelsia village when a van reportedly hit the vehicle that was transporting tent material for an official function to Bisrasar village. The van driver has been booked. OC
