Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure the return of a Bathinda man who has been detained by police in Malaysia.

In a letter to Jaishankar, Capt Amarinder said Harbans Singh, a resident of Gumti Kalan village in Bathinda district, is languishing in a Malaysian jail since August 2018.

The CM has sought the Union Minister’s personal indulgence in the efforts for the release of Harbans Singh.

Capt Amarinder said as per Harbans Singh’s family, he had gone to Malaysia in August 2018 on a tourist visa. However, the family is not aware as to on what grounds the Malaysian Police have taken him in their custody.

“He is a citizen of India and holds valid Aadhaar number,” the letter read, adding that a copy of his Aadhaar card, abstract of the Electoral Roll and photograph are enclosed as his identity proof.
