Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh on Friday accepted resignation of Dakha MLA HS Phoolka.

Phoolka, who had resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party and as MLA last year, has urged the Speaker to immediately accept his resignation, failing which he would be “constrained to approach the Supreme Court”.

In a letter to the Speaker, Phoolka has urged the Speaker to immediately accept his resignation so that the byelection to Dakha constituency could be held simultaneously with elections to Jalalabad and Phagwara assembly segments.

The acceptation of resignation has paved the way for byelection to three Assembly seats in Punjab--Phagwara, Dakha and Jalalabad.

Jalalabad bypoll was necessitated as SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal got elected as MP from Ferozepur, while BJP MLA from Phagwara, Som Parkash, got elected as Hoshiarpur MP.

The bypolls are likely to be held in October along with the Haryana Assembly elections.
