Farm labourers held a protest against the auction of village common land and gheraoed the community centre at Khunde Halal village here on Friday.

The protesters did not even allow the officials of the BDPO office, panchayat members and the police to come out of the community centre.

Later, the administration agreed to hold a meeting and pass a resolution to give plots to farm labourers on May 30, following which the officials were allowed to come out of the community centre, said Tarsem Singh, a leader of the farm labourer union. The farm labourers have been demanding free five-marla plots for landless labourers for long.
