Fortune smiles on Punjab Home Guard’s family

BATHINDA: Life was not easy for 45-year-old Paramjit Singh, a Home Guard with Punjab Police, a father of four. He was informed that his daughter Lakhwinder Kaur, 17, had won a prize of Rs 1.5 crore in the Punjab State Diwali Bumper.

Life was not easy for 45-year-old Paramjit Singh, a Home Guard with Punjab Police, a father of four.

Subsisting hand to mouth, fortune smiled on the family rather unexpectedly on Thursday morning when Paramjit received a phone call.

He was informed that his daughter Lakhwinder Kaur, 17, had won a prize of Rs 1.5 crore in the Punjab State Diwali Bumper. 

The household erupted in joy as congratulatory messages kept pouring throughout the day.     

An elated Lakhwinder Kaur, a Class XII student, who had bought the ticket for Rs 200 a week before Diwali, said: “First of all, we will build a spacious house. Next, we will buy land and start some business. I will make sure my siblings get good education. Pursuing studies further, I will try get a bank job.” Paramjit Singh’s mother is afflicted with paralysis while he himself suffers from chronic arthritis.
