HOSHIARPUR: Mukhtiar Singh alias Bara, a native of Pakhowal village of Garhshankar in the district, allegedly committed suicide in Auckland city of New Zealand.

Hoshiarpur, December 12

Mukhtiar Singh alias Bara, a native of Pakhowal village of Garhshankar in the district, allegedly committed suicide in Auckland city of New Zealand.

Mukhtiar (36) had gone to Auckland with his father 24 years ago. He reportedly ended his life by hanging himself at the family farm. He is survived by his wife Sukhpreet Kaur of Mahilpur, daughter Seerat (9) and son Yuvraj Singh (7).

His brother Sukhwinder Singh, who lives at Pakhowal village, said they were shocked at the incident. He said: “My brother had no trouble in his life. We can’t understand why he took such an extreme step?”

He said Bara had come here to for a wedding in January. “We had never thought that it would be his last meeting with us,” he said.
