House remembers victims of train tragedy, grenade attack

CHANDIGARH: On the opening day of the Assembly’s winter session, the House today paid homage to the victims of the Amritsar train tragedy and the Nirankari Bhawan grenade attack, besides 49 people who succumbed to dengue.

On the opening day of the Assembly’s winter session, the House today paid homage to the victims of the Amritsar train tragedy and the Nirankari Bhawan grenade attack, besides 49 people who succumbed to dengue.

The House also observed a two-minute silence in memory of freedom fighters, politicians and other noted personalities during the obituary references, including ex-MLAs Bishambar Dass and Ram Rattan Chaudhary, hero of Battle of Laungewala Brig Kuldip Singh Chandpuri and Faridkot royal scion Maharani Deepinder Kaur. Tributes were also paid to freedom fighters Mela Singh, Sohan Singh and Surjit Singh.

Speaker Rana KP Singh remembered the soldiers who had made the supreme sacrifice during the terror attack on Parliament on December 13, 2001.

The Speaker acceded to the request of Akali MLA Bikram Singh Majithia to pay tributes to soldiers of Army and paramilitary forces who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the integrity and sovereignty of the country. Rana KP Singh consented to include the name of former Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes Avtar Singh Thind, father of Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh.
