Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh Mintoo was cremated at his native Dalli village here on Friday.

Earlier, his body kept at the village gurdwara for paying tributes. Mintoo’s mother Gurdev Kaur and younger brother Satinder Singh flew from Goa for the cremation. While Mintoo had involved himself in KCF activities, his family migrated to Goa in the early 80s.

His wife Nirmaljeet Kaur and two children could not attend the last rites. Among those who were present were former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode and Takht Kesgarh Sahib parallel Jathedar Amrik Singh Ajnala.

Meanwhile, Damdami Taksal head Harnam Singh Dhumma accused the Punjab Government of letting Mintoo die “a slow death”. “He was suffering from a serious heart ailment and was in need of critical care,” he claimed.

He added that despite completing their sentence, over 150 former militants were languishing in jails. “All of them must be released immediately. We had even met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and apprised him of the matter, but no action was taken.”
