Bathinda, September 11

A day after AAP leaders threatened not to cremate their zila parishad candidate Harvinder Singh Hinda, who was killed on Sunday night, the family members of the deceased cremated him at Jethuke village on Tuesday.

Talking to The Tribune, Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema said: “I am unaware about the cremation, but the family had told us that they would not cremate the body till the arrest of the accused.”

AAP MLA from Maur Jagdev Singh Kamalu said: “It seems that the family is under pressure. We had constituted an action committee and had decided to stage a protest outside the police station with Hinda’s body, if police failed to arrest the accused in 36 hours.”

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have got some clues in the case. Bathinda SSP Dr Nanak Singh said: “We have got some leads in the case and we are working on them.” Hinda was found dead at his home at Jethuke village in Bathinda district on Monday morning.

According to his wife, three persons known to him had visited him and took him along for drinks. They returned home late at night and stayed back there with Hinda. However, when she woke up the next morning, she found her husband killed and the trio missing. Hinda (42) had filed nomination from Gill Kalan ZPzone.
