Chandigarh, April 23

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, Dr S Karuna Raju today met officers of all oil companies operating in the state with regard to the model code of conduct and asked them to keep a record of sale of fuel.

Dr Raju said the Election Commission of India (ECI) had fixed an expenditure limit to the tune of Rs 70 lakh for candidates contesting the Lok Sabha elections. In the recent past, there were allegations that no record had been maintained for fuel in vehicles used to attend election rallies, roadshows etc.

The ECI has thus directed that a vigil must be kept on the sale of petrol/diesel. He also instructed that where ever a big rally or roadshow is held, the record of sale of petrol or diesel and CCTV footage of that day will be collected from all nearby petrol pumps.
