Abohar, March 20

A Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted under High Court directions, on Tuesday claimed to have nabbed Samarbir Singh Sammy in connection with the murder of Canada-based NRI Balkaran Singh Bhullar (57).

Bhullar was shot dead on October 19 outside his farmhouse near Balluana village, about 12 km from Abohar.

Earlier on November 4, Kulbir Singh and Darshan Singh Lahoria were nabbed with an unlicensed pistol and three cartridges.

Balkaran’s brother Baljit Singh Bhullar had blamed Samarbir Singh Sammy, brother Kulbir Singh, Sammy’s father-in-law Gurnek Singh Rimpy, latter’s son-in-law Gurshetar Singh and others for the murder. They had been booked under Sections 302, 382, 148, 149 and 120-B of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

Kulbir had reportedly said a dispute over his family’s 16-acre agricultural land had led to the killing after they lost a legal battle with Balkaran in a local court on September 25. Kulbir sought the help of his friend Darshan Lahoria and others for the murder.
