The Congress has decided to hold accountable its ministers and MLAs for the performance of its candidates in the general election.

This was announced by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh here on Wednesday.

Amarinderr said the decision had been taken by the Congress high command, under Rahul Gandhi, to accelerate the momentum for achieving the party’s Mission 13 in the ongoing election.

He said that in keeping with the high command’s decision, the incumbent ministers in Punjab who did not succeed in ensuring a victory for the Congress, especially from the constituencies they represented, would be dropped from the cabinet.

In the case of party MLAs, those who failed to perform in their constituencies would not be considered for tickets in the next Assembly election, he added.

The party has also made the criterion for allotment of chairmanships of various boards more stringent. The Congress has decided that such chairmanships would be allotted on the basis of the performance of individuals in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. Performance, and not seniority, would be the criterion determining their eligibility for boards and corporations, Amarinder said.

The objective behind these decisions, the CM said, is to promote a performance-based culture in the party. Rahul is in favour of rewarding those party leaders and workers who made a difference on the ground, he said.
