Punjab’s Republic Day tableau wins third prize

Punjab has won the third prize for its tableau on the theme of Jallianwala Bagh massacre, displayed at this year’s Republic Day parade.

Congratulating the Punjab Information and Public Relations Department for the achievement, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh said the award was an honour for the state as well as the Punjabis living in different parts of the country and abroad. He said the tableau was a humble tribute to the centenary commemoration of the Jallianwala massacre in April 2019.

The award was conferred by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at New Delhi this morning and was received by Information & Public Relations Secretary Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, who was accompanied by Director Anindita Mitra. The department had also been awarded the third position in 1967 and 1982.

An official spokesperson said the Punjab tableau was selected by the National Tableau Selection Committee from among the 16 shortlisted for the parade. This was the third successive year when the Punjab tableau was selected for the final Republic Day parade.
