Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra awarded high quality German made Walther rifles to five young talented Indian shooters.

Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra awarded high quality German made Walther rifles to five young talented Indian shooters. The promising young shooters who received the award are Arun Sharma (21) of Jammu & Kashmir, Prashant Tanwar (19) of Haryana, Nikhil B (16) of Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh’s Satyam Chauhan (20) and Gajendra Rai (16). The shooters have been selected from a pool of more than 300 applicants.

Narine undergoes test in Chennai

Sunil Narine, who has been reported for suspect bowling action again, is available for tomorrow’s IPL contest against Rajasthan Royals but KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir says they’re still pondering whether to play the spinner. Narine underwent a test in Chennai today. “He’s gone for testing. I think reports will be out in next 48 hours,” Gambhir said.

Facing the prospect of a ban after failing a dope test, Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Reza Hassan has got into more trouble after being caught by the police at an alcohol-fuelled rave party in Lahore. The 22-year-old was picked up along with a group of people for allegedly taking part in a party involving alcohol and dancers. Consumption of alcohol is banned in Islamic Pakistan and is a punishable offence. — Agencies

Michael Schumacher's 16-year-old son Mick collected the trophy for best rookie on his motor racing debut after finishing ninth in a German Formula Four race. The teenager had qualified 19th for the race at Oschersleben. The award for best rookie, in the first of three races scheduled for the German track this weekend, allowed him to join the top three finishers on the podium.

Kapur drops to tied 47th in Volvo China Open

Shiv Kapur, hit by a triple bogey and three other bogeys, dropped to tied 47th after carding a three-over 75 and in round three of the Volvo China Open. Kapur  is now one-over 217 after a round that had three birdies, three bogeys and a disappointing triple on par-4 16th hole.
