Commissions for "Anglo-Indians."

THE writer of the "Ditcher's Diary" in Capital has great sympathy for the people of this country. He is thoroughly independent and as a rule unprejudiced. It is, therefore, somewhat disappointing that he, while writing in enthusiastic terms of Mr. Abbott's pet scheme of "Anglo-Indian" regiments and of the claims of "Anglo-Indians" for commissions in the army, has not a word to say in favour of Indian soldiers. "If Anglo-Indian regiments or companies are formed," he remarks, "I presume they will have Anglo-Indian officers. I also presume that the status of the latter will be as good as other holders of His Majesty's Commission." The Punjab which is sending the flower of its manhood to the front has a prior claim for commissions in the Army.
