The Ideal and the Real

AT the Satara District Conference which was held on the 24th instant, Mr. J.D. Dharmsey delivered a spirited address in the course of which he pointed out the importance of concentrating public attention to the chief problem of the country and the Empire, leaving aside minor problems. In this connection he wanted both the rulers and people in which the war is being waged and the big events that it has already produced. Referring to Mr. Lloyd George’s references to India, expressing gratitude to India for the hundred millions pound, Mr. Dharmsey quoted the following telling words, viz., “this gift is to us a moving proof that India shares whole-heartedly with the other subjects of the Crown the ideals for which we are fighting in this war.” And it is not very difficult to find out what exactly these ideals are.
