Jalandhar, March 28

A Rama Mandi-based auto-rickshaw driver was arrested by the police on Friday for misguiding the police about being without food for four days. An FIR under Section 182 has been registered against him.

The auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Villiam Masih, a resident of Barring, reportedly dialled the helpline number to inform the police that he ran out of kitchen supplies and his family was starving for the past four days.

Taking cognisance of his complaint, a police team, led by area SHO Ram Pal Singh, reached his house to deliver the ration and other eatables. However, to his surprise, the SHO found that the suspect had stocked his kitchen with almost every essential item and there was no shortage of food.

The SHO said: “While delivering food parcels we entered his house as it was raining outside and when we went inside his kitchen, we were shocked to see that enough ration was stored that could even last for over a week. Moreover, when residents are grappling to refill their empty gas cylinders, he has stored four cylinders.

Following this, the police took the auto-rickshaw driver to the police station and registered an FIR against him under Section 182 for providing false information.

The video of the incident shot by the gunman of the SHO was being circulated on social media. Ram Pal said action would be taken against such people for misleading the police and the administration.
