Punjab AAP convener and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann today lashed out at the previous SAD-BJP regime and the incumbent Congress government for high power tariff in the state during a protest rally in Mansa district today.

Addressing the rally, Mann alleged that the SAD, during its tenure in the state, shut down government thermal plants and signed power purchase agreements with private plants against the interests of the state, which led to increased power tariff for the common man.

“On one hand, people in the state are getting electricity at high prices despite the state producing power on its own and on the other, the AAP government in Delhi is facilitating electricity at reasonable rates after purchasing power from other states,” he claimed.

He alleged that the Congress government, led by Capt Amarinder Singh, failed to fulfill its promise of reviewing the power purchase agreements signed during the previous SAD-BJP regime.

He said state government could provide power at affordable rates to people if it resumes the operation of government power plants to their full capacity.

He alleged that the government had duped people by serving the interests of private thermal plant players. He warned that the Congress government would have to pay a heavy price for its alleged connivance with the SAD. Mann said people had tried and tested the Congress and the SAD-BJP alliance, adding that the electorate would support AAP in the next Assembly elections in 2022.
