MC removes encroachments

Bathinda: The tehbazari wing of the Municipal Corporation removed encroachments from Param Ram Nagar main road in the city on Monday. During the drive, MC officials removed the makeshift stalls set up on roads and material lying on road outside the shop. They also gave warning to shopkeepers to keep their material away from the footpath. Ravinder Singh Cheema, tehbazari wing inspector, said whenever an anti-encroachment drive was started by them, shopkeepers would remove their stalls and materials temporarily, but encroached the same area again. Now, they would continue their anti-encroachment drive, he said. He said they had clicked pictures of stalls and materials which were displayed by shopkeepers on the footpath. City residents, however, said such drives would not make any difference until MC officials take strict action against shopkeepers, who allow these makeshift stalls to be set up outside their shops.
