Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Bathinda, recently got the approval from the state government to start liver transplantation.

The institution organised a seminar in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, Chennai, to create awareness about organ donation amongst the faculty members and students.

A team of Mohan Foundation (Northern India) visited the Adesh University. The team made a presentation highlighting the importance and procedure of organ donation.

They told that vital organs like heart, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs and pancreas can be donated in case of brain death.

Organ donation and transplantation is one of the most remarkable medical success stories of this century.

Tissues like corneas, heart valves, skin bones can be donated in natural death. Organs like kidney, liver can also be donated. One can be an organ donor by signing a donor card from any hospital and an NGO.

If a person has a donor card, it means that he/she is willing to donate organs upon death. We should remember that in our country even if one has signed the donor card, it is important to have the consent of the family while signing the donor card.

The donor card should be kept by everyone in his wallet as a proof of his/her wish to donate organs upon death.

Dr GPI Singh, Vice-Chancellor; Dr Gurpreet Singh Gill, Medical Superindent; and Dr GL Sharma, Principal, AIMSR, were also present.
